it is also for this reason, and applying occam's razor, that we can conclude that revelations was compiled around 67 ad, or the early months of 68 ad before the death of nero. the manuscript evidence for the mark of the beast exists in two versions, 666 and 616. the name of nero has the value of 616 without the gemmatria of the letter nun, which narrows the metaphor for nero. john speaks about the death of the saints so this would be around 67 when peter and paul and other apostles have died. on the other hand, the gospel of john doesn't have this imagery nor narration so this gospel would have been written much earlier, prior to at least the fire of rome in 64 ad. it is quite possible it was written much earlier because the pastoral letters gives the sense that there is no ongoing roman persecution and therefore can have been written in the 50s
