I have taken it the wrong way, too, thinking either I can't get through to them even when I tried to be as simple and clear as I could (replacing dazzlingly inventive words, by the way, with common tropes that were probably not a part of their experience to do it, like old hymn themes) or, consulting the scriptures in dismay, deciding (uncertainly because probably the decision was ridiculous) they don't have ears good enough to hear. So it was God's fault? That was years ago. Boy, do I learn slow.
