I was raised in a family and a church that preached guilt for every mistake. I was in my sixties before I learned that guilt is from hell. I was taught that if I didn’t recognize every mistake and repent and beg for forgiveness I was doomed. Jesus’s sacrifice was qualified as ineffective if I couldn’t remember every sin or if it took years to realize my thought pattern was wrong. My mother preached revenge on anyone who slighted her but damnation to her children if we did the same. It was a sick juxtaposition of grace, faith, condemnation and revenge. Thankfully I’ve seen the light and don’t live in the darkness of guilt anymore. All those who believe in Him are saved. Not just the perfect, because nobody is. If I had died before I recognized my mother’s error and my own for believing her I would still have gone to heaven because I’ve always known Jesus is the Christ, the messiah, the son of God, and God in the flesh; that He died so all my sins were covered, not just the ones I could remember since there are large chunks of my childhood and young adulthood I don’t remember. His sacrifice was finished, and therefore the salvation was finished and Jesus and the Father love me and all humanity. God recognized my weaknesses and made them irrelevant. Yes, I know I can’t knowingly sin and not repent and still claim salvation but with man, what is impossible is more than possible with God. Don’t live and wallow in your guilt. It’s like mud. If you leave that pit behind, what has stuck to you will eventually dry out and fall off you IF you walk in the light of Jesus’s love. Come to the Father and bask in His love, knowing that He knows you, loves you and has made a way for you to live with Him in eternity without condemnation if you only believe that THE WAY He made was Jesus.
