Genesis as a narrative is not compatible with what we have learned about the universe.
So, to reconcile that fact one must either interpret it as a metaphor or if you insist on taking it literally you must come to terms with the fact that you are choosing to believe something which contradicts observed reality for religious/spiritual reasons.
