If you are his sheep, you know his voice. There’s no such thing as a relationship where conversation doesn’t take place! I know the leaders at CE may believe otherwise, but God can speak in ways much more personal than other people and circumstances. And if he speaks through others, how does that work? Does someone just *happen* to say the thing God wanted them to say, and the Holy Spirit puts a magic “that feels right” on top of it? Sure he can, but his sheep also know his voice. Prayer is not one way, you need only incline your heart to the gentle whisper Elijah experienced. God bless all my brothers and sisters at Cross Examined!

Here is a foolproof method to discover this 'God's' will. 1) Petition some desired outcome you imagine this 'God' has the capability of granting. 2) Wait a while. 3) If the favorable outcome occurs, imagine that this outcome came about solely by this 'God', the creator of the entire cosmos, because he loves you in particular and say to yourself - "This outcome was definitely God's Will. All praise and glory are His." 4) If the favorable outcome petitioned does not occur, say to yourself and to all those around "It must have been God's Will to not grant my petition. He must have something better for me. His ways are mysterious. We can not know the Will of God. His Will is perfect. All we can do his serve and worship Him. His is our Father in Heaven, and His plan is all that I desire." 5) Remember to dupe yourself into ignoring the fact that you have now contradicted yourself. See. It is quite foolproof if you simply follow my infallible method.

OK... So you admit we have no reliable method to know God's will, but nevertheless you say we should count on his will to direct us? That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. That will ensure that the gullible and the arrogant will be the most convinced that they know the will of God, regardless of whether they are right or not.

You can't discover the will of an imaginary being. Even the holy book you all subscribe to shows he contradicts himself. And every denomination says something different about his will.

So no answer then?

That was a great non-answer........

Be discipled to become a disciple who makes still more disciples in Christ denying self and taking up your cross daily to follow after Christ alone as you witness, ( Greek word Martus ) of Christ in your Jerusalem - your neighbor, and in all of your Judea - your Near, and in your Samaria - your Neglected ,and to the uttermost places on earth. Your Next! Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 9:23, Acts 1:8. Making disciples in the same manner as Jesus Himself demonstrated in the gospels, answers the prayer to the Lord of the harvest to raise up workers for the fields ripe unto harvest. Matthew 9:37-38. Putting feet into ministry not just butts in pews. And fulfilling Ephesians 4:11-13.... Equipping the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to fullness of Christ . Christ Jesus gave us this prophecy and command: " This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a witness to every nation and then the end will come. " Matthew 24:14.... And Jesus said this: " If you love Me, you will obey My commandments. " John 14:15....Well.... Do We? Bless all who will!

My two cents: Not many, if any, apologists talk about this the way you did. Most theologians and other apologists talk only about God's will as outlined in the bible and only stating that that's all we should do and also stating that anything outside of that is questionable. I agree to an extent. Knowing God's will also encompasses what His plan is for our lives. When it comes to God's will, people are talking about God's plan for their lives which is what I think people shpuld say rather than "God's will". That stems from people's desire for purpose. Dr. Myles Munroe said once that God's plan for us is secret to Him, (meaning that He is the only one who knows it). He went on to say that God shows us our destination but never the plan because if God showed us the plan, (which is also the process), we would say, "Forget the destination". I agree because if we knew what we would have to go through to become who and what God desires us to be, we would opt out of it. Thank you for putting it the way you did, Dr. Conway.

I remember this being a huge sticking point for me when I was a Christian. After praying, sometimes it felt like he would give me a clear answer. But then later, I would question whether that was really God, or just me talking to myself. Was I discovering God's will, or just my own expectation of what God's will would be? How to tell the difference? Ah... the agony. As a deconvert, I think the entire process was futile. My thoughts are my own.

Seeking God's will isn't trying to get God to do everything we want. His will always aligns with His word and never contradicts it. It's also found in submission to Him, patience, wisdom and how the Holy Spirit speaks to us about the matter. As Jesus modeled in His prayer for us, "thy will be done". Seeking God’s will over our own is the best place to start.

You don’t know John 10:10. It’s in the past tense. He gave us perfect life 2000 years ago. As long as you don’t acknowledge it you won’t enjoy it.

GODS WILL : What he needs me to do for the day. It can range from ministering and helping others to nothing at all. I also see my relationship with JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT as his will as well. For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whomsoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life 🙌

The more you know and follow God, the more you will know His will.

I think some of this stems from a need to have everything explained and everything figured out. This is not necessarily bad - heck, it's good to plan ahead - but too much obsession over "God's will" can be unhealthy. Just stay in grounded in reality and try to live in harmony with nature.
