TODAY, the true God, Jehovah, is rejected by atheists, agnostics, worshipers of false gods, and millions of people who claim to believe in God but who deny him by their works. (Titus 1:16) Many share the belief of the 19th-century German philosopher Nietzsche that “God is dead.” Is Jehovah unaware of this gross indifference? Yes, you do, because he inspired David to write: “The senseless one has said in his heart: ‘There is no Jehovah.’ They have acted ruinously, they have acted detestably in their action. There is no one who does good.” —Psalm 14:1.
David continues: “As for Jehovah, he has looked down upon the sons of men from heaven itself to see if there is anyone with insight, anyone searching for Jehovah.” Yes, the Sovereign Lord is aware of those who seek to know and serve him. Therefore, it is vital that we seriously pursue it now. It will mean the difference between eternal life and eternal extinction. —Psalm 14:2; Matthew 25:41, 46; Hebrews 11:6.
So we can understand why it is so important that we help others to seek Jehovah now. There are still millions of people who have never met one of Jehovah's Witnesses or heard the “good news of the kingdom”. And we do not know by how much the number of those who make up the “great crowd” will increase before the “great tribulation”. But certainly there is the potential for more to seek and find Jehovah God in the immediate future, before it is too late. The question is: What can we do to help other myriads find God? —Matthew 24:14; Revelation 7:9, 14. Many people in the world today are looking for something, but what? Very few are really seeking the one true God, Jehovah. There are many who prefer a god to suit their own desires and prejudices. George Gallup Jr., an American public opinion pollster, stated: “In terms of fraud, tax evasion and petty theft, you really don’t see much difference between the church-affiliated and the unaffiliated, largely because there is so much social religion. .” He adds that “many simply set up a religion that suits them, that pleasantly excites them . . . Someone called it religion à la carte”.
