"If you strike him with a rod, he will not die" : means you need to keep count of them at all times so they dont get hurt and they need to be held accountable for going off the right path : If you remove or force in order to keep safe, they wont die.
:beatest with a rod" : means keep ahead of him (go first) and beat him to the punch before he is in danger of getting hurt or being tempted to sin. Steer him in the right direction to keep safe.
Rod is used to protect
Spoil is to go bad
Staff is used to guide.
Strike is to keep count of
Beatest is to go first.
