Because (bottom line) Edwards believed that God would be perfectly just in sending babies to an eternal hell…. If that doesn’t disturb you- then something is deeply wrong with your “moral compass” I will not (knowingly) eat from the fruit of a poisoned tree (though I acknowledge that Edwards could write exquisitely when focused on the true glories of God - e.g. his sermons on “charity”…)
