You have to have the correct faith. Take Cain and Abel. They were required to make sacrifices to God of an animal. Cain had faith that if he made a sacrifice that he would be in right standing with God. But Cain, thought man I did some hard work to raise crops. I will give God the fruit of my labor. Guess what. God was not pleased. But Abel followed the instructions of God. Abel had the faith that counts, Cain not at all. Cain and Abel had an arguement. The bible doesn't give details but it the story is together with the sacrifices. Cain kills Abel. God gives Cain a punishment that he can not stand, to harsh (paraphrase) So it is today. We have to have the right type of faith. Faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. HIs blood for forgiveness and his victory over death for our eternal life. That is the faith that counts, nothing else. Nothing else according to Paul it is not our works. Salvation is a free gift.
